Rafael’s exhilarating month for Manchester United has been capped off by beating Paul Scholes to the club’s Player of the Month award.
The 22-year-old has reacted emphatically to being given a regular place as United’s rightback and was chosen by fans to receive the award – his first in his 97-game tenure.
With an exceptional equaliser against Liverpool at Anfield added to his goal against Fulham in August, Rafael has proven his attacking intentions on United’s right flank.
He was chosen with almost half (48%) of the vote ahead of Scholes on 44%, Carrick on 5% and Ferdinand on 3%.
Speaking about his goal against Liverpool, the Brazilian said: “It’s definitely the best goal I’ve scored for United. It was a good moment to get it because it was so quick after they scored.
“If we hadn’t had scored them we might have got a little bit nervous so it was an important time to get the goal.”
The youngster has benefited from his starting role in the team as Chris Smalling and Phil Jones remain on the injury table.
And despite conceding another early goal in their 2-1 away win against CFR Cluj, Rafael was hailed for his defensive attitude in Romania.
