It may be a new year but it is the same Robin van Persie after the Dutch dynamo scooped back-to-back Manchester United’s Player of the Month awards.
December saw Van Persie pick up the award with a scintillating Christmas run, striking five times to help build a Premier League gap over champions Manchester City.
A month on, the ex-Arsenal marksman has bagged both another quintuple and more than half the votes (53%) as Red Devils fans fall even deeper in love with their new hero.
In a very creditable second, Ryan Giggs – who turned 39 in October – wowed crowds with his age-defying feats.
The Welshman (with 22% of the vote) arguably saved his side from FA Cup ignominy as his pin-point pass for a Van Persie goal spared Reds blushes against West Ham United at Upton Park.
And Patrice Evra’s flourishing form places him third (18%), with the Frenchman helping United to shore up their defence while picking up three assists.
The race is already on for the February award and the early bookies’ favourite may be Wayne Rooney – the Liverpudlian bagged the winner against Fulham last Saturday and has netted in each of his last five starts.
