Roy Hodgson praises ‘superb’ form of Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart as squad relax with video games

Roy Hodgson is praising the superb form of Joe Hart – while the Manchester City goalkeeper joins teammates in playing video games to relax ahead of Euro 2012.

The Three Lions’ camp are looking for ways to stem their boredom ahead of their first game against France on June 11 and videos games have proven popular.

Hart claimed there is always time for gaming as Hodgson replicated Brian Clough’s philosophy of praising his keeper.

“We’re looking forward to staying in a central location and getting out and about to embrace the local culture,” said Hart.

“But there’s always time for a bit of gaming when we’re away. The EA Sports case has gone down a storm at the England camp,” he added.

The mobile gaming case includes a flat-screen TV, Playstation 3 and EA Sports Uefa Euro 2012 game and Hart also has wireless 3D video goggles.

“I got some stick from the boys but they all wanted a go after me,” he said. “This will be travelling with me on every away match from now on.”

The players have been uplifted by Hart’s title-winning performances for City last season and Hodgson believes his man is essential to the team’s confidence.

He said: “If you look at the top England teams of the past we have often had a goalkeeper that people have suggested is one of the best in Europe or, in the case of Gordon Banks, in the world.

“He produces the save that a normal goalkeeper wouldn’t. That lifts your team higher up the league. It also gives confidence, which is another factor.

“Joe’s form for Manchester City has been superb.

“When he has played for England he has done very well and if we are to do well there is no doubt we will need Joe Hart in top form.”
