Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to lure a Manchester United youngster away from Old Trafford this year after Ezekiel Fryers agreed a deal with the Londoners.
The 19-year-old defender will move to White Hart Lane and join new boss Andre Villas Boas after failing to agree contract terms with the Reds.
Fryers is expected to receive a £20,000-a-week deal and join Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba in leaving United’s academy this year.
On Monday, Sir Alex Ferguson said he had not heard from Fryers and expected him to return to the club.
“We haven’t heard anything from Zeki Fryers,” he said. “I don’t know what’s happening there but he’s not been in touch with the club.
“His agent hasn’t been in touch with the club and I can only assume he’ll be back for training.”
The Reds will gain compensation after bringing Fryers through their youth system – but there will be a battle for his transfer free as they are expected to slap a £6million price-tag on him.
The youngster made his debut for the first-team last season and was key in the Reserves league triumph.
But Fryers will be the latest promising star to turn his back on the club as Morrison left for West Ham in January and Pogba recently secured a move to Juventus.
Ferguson slammed the latter’s move as showing ‘a lack of respect’ and has already brought in youngsters Sean Goss and Nick Powell to bolster their academy.
