An injury-hit Manchester City are battling to resurrect promising youngster Jack Rodwell’s season, and welcome back Micah Richards and Sergio Aguero.
Rodwell’s £12million move to Eastlands from Everton has been unprofitable so far as the England midfielder has been plagued by fitness problems again.
The 22-year-old has not played for the Premier League champions since October while on international duty, but Roberto Mancini is eager to get his bright talent back in training.
“He is getting better and we hope we can recover him in two or three weeks,” said the Italian hero.
“He needs to start working with the group and he didn’t do this until Thursday.
“I worry because when we bought him we thought he was a good player and then he had these problems with hamstrings.
“We hope we can improve this situation for him. He is young and has quality, he has everything to be a good midfielder.”
Mancini’s men sealed their place in the FA Cup fourth round with a comfortable victory over Watford, after steering their Premier League season back on course following a Boxing Day blip.
But talisman striker Aguero is destined for a number of weeks on the injury table after tearing his hamstring in their 3-0 victory over Stoke City on New Year’s Day.
Rightback Richards is still recovering from knee surgery and is hoped to fit in another eight weeks.
Mancini’s selection headache for their Super Sunday clash with Arsenal is made worse as the African Nations Cup as Ivory Coast trio Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and Abdul Razak join teammates for at least a month.
City will kick-off against the Londoners a possible ten points behind leader Manchester United, who host Liverpool in the day’s early tie.
