Well-settled Robin van Persie blushes at Manchester United fans’ welcome, but insists success is not just about goals

Red hot summer signing Robin van Persie has thanked fans for the incredible welcome he has received – but insisted that he should not be taking all the scoring headlines.

In the six months since moving from Arsenal, the £24million Dutchman has already bagged himself 20 goals, firmly establishing himself in the side.

His performances also saw him gain 58% of the votes as he scooped the Player of the Month award for December, with the 29-year-old thanking the fans for their support.

“It always nice to be recognised by the fans,” he said.

“I have settled into the club quite quickly and I am really enjoying playing in his team. I would like to thank all the fans for all their support.”

But despite scoring five goals in the last six games to help the Red Devils maintain their seven-point Premier League lead, modest Van Persie was quick to draw attention to the entire team.

“It’s not all about scoring goals, but obviously that does help. It’s great that so many players have scored goals over the season so far,” he added.

“December is always a difficult month and I feel we have come through this period as we wanted to and hopefully we can now push on for the rest of the season.”
