Northern Thunder side are ready and confident ahead of Netball’s Superleague Showdown, says Tracey Neville

Tracey Neville believes her team is full of confidence ahead of the Superleague Showdown at the end of the month.

Neville’s Northern Thunder closed out the regular season with a confidence-boosting 68-45 win over last year’s champions Hertfordshire Mavericks on Saturday night.

But the 35-year-old director of netball is cautious about her side’s chances of going one step better than last year after the Thunder lost out in the 2011 Superleague Showdown.

“To win this match was more important for us as we play Hertfordshire again in a couple of weeks but it was a great performance from the girls,” said Neville, sister of footballers Gary and Phil.

“I don’t know yet we’re taking it one step at a time it depends how the girls perform against the big fish. Last year’s Superleague final weekend loss was a massive disappointment.”

Two back-to-back wins against Team Bath and Hertfordshire Mavericks has left Neville’s Thunder looking unstoppable and she heaped praise on 19-year-old Wing Attack, Beth Cobden.

“You expect the likes of Karen Greig and Sara Bayman to always play well but Cobden was great. She’s just come back from a serious cruciate injury last year.”
