Edin Dzeko storms to landslide victory: Manchester City fans vote Bosnian as double Player of the Month

Edin Dzeko has dismissed critics to claim Manchester City’s Player of the Month award for August and September after winning the fans’ vote with a landslide result.

Of the Bosnian’s last nine Premier League goals, seven of them have given City the lead or pulled them back on equal terms and the striker has impressed in ties against Southampton, QPR, Real Madrid and Fulham.

The 26-year-old stormed to 80% of the vote, ahead of Aleksandar Kolarov, Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez and Joe Hart – whose game against Borussia Dortmund is tipped for performance of the season.

And with his third award at the club under his belt, Dzeko committed his future to the club and banished any claims of tension between him and City.

“Every time I see a newspaper – for what seems like for a year or more – there is a story saying that I am leaving City or that I want to go,” he said.

“I’ve never said any of that so the stories don’t come from me – I’ve always wanted to stay at City and fight for my place and my motto has always been ‘never give up’.

“I hope the City fans, who have always been fantastic towards me, have seen I can score some important goals for the team and that’s what I want to carry on doing.”

The £27million signing from Wolfsburg struggled to cement his place in Roberto Mancini’s strike force – being forced to compete with Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli for a starting spot but has been regularly used by the Italian this year.
