Sergio Aguero is delighted with the form of compatriot Pablo Zabaleta – Manchester City’s Etihad Player of the Month.
The Argentinian defender has been one of City’s outstanding performers this season and chipped in with two goals, already doubling his tally for last season.
And Aguero – City’s top scorer in last year’s triumphant campaign – is not short of praise for the 27-year-old fullback.
“It¹s amazing how well Zaba is playing – he is so focussed,” Aguero said.
“He is one of our best players at City and one of the first names on the team sheet, playing every match.”
Zabaleta found the net in December’s Manchester derby and in City’s 3-0 win against Stoke City on New Year’s Day.
“He always tells me that he is going to score one goal per season,” Aguero said.
“This year I told him that he is going to score more goals and he has two so far so I‘ve been proved right.
“Until last weekend, Zaba had scored more goals than Messi this year.”
City are seven points behind rivals Manchester United, who top the Premier League, as they bid to retain the title.
But Aguero, who scored a dramatic title-winning goal in May, is confident they can reel in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
“We will be fine. We are not playing as well as we did last season but we are winning the matches anyway,” he added.
“We have the team, you know, so we definitely can play as we did last season and I think we will in the coming months.”
