Rochdale’s Ashley Grimes bags League Two Player of the Month award for prolific December

Rochdale striker Ashley Grimes was rewarded for his red-hot scoring form before the New year when he picked up League Two’s Player of the Month for December today.

The 26-year-old bagged doubles against Aldershot and in a 4-1 win over third-placed Cheltenham Town and added another as the Dale beat potential Capital Cup finalists Bradford City 4-2 at Valley Parade.

Emma Collins, Sponsorship Manager for Football League sponsor npower, singled out the forward in a Rochdale side which plundered 16 goals in six games last month.

“Rochdale couldn’t stop scoring in December and the man leading the charge was Ashley Grimes,” she told the club website.

“It wasn’t just the number of goals that was impressive, the quality of the finishing was jaw-dropping at times and Dale fans will be hoping for more of the same.”

Grimes’ scoring streak boosts his total for the season to ten – two behind Bobby Grant – as Rochdale look to fire their way back into the play-offs.

The forward, who moved to Spotland in 2011, beat off competition from Fleetwood Town’s goalkeeper Scott Davies and winger Sean Rigg from Oxford United to win the award.
