Manchester United’s triumphs in crunch games this season are all down to better planning, according to Jonny Evans.
With away day victories over Premier League big boys Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool already under their belts, the Red Devils have established a seven-point lead over the chasing pack.
United only took two points from the three fixtures last year and Evans insists the improved results are thanks to the fruits of preparation.
“We’ve beaten Chelsea, Liverpool and City all away from home,” said the Northern Ireland international. “They’re big games, which we’d gladly take three points from.
“In seasons gone past we sometimes haven’t been able to get results in those big games, so that is a big boost for us.
“We don’t sit there at the start of the season and say, ‘right, we need to win this game and that one’, because we know that football doesn’t work like that.
“But I think what we have done going into those games is to be better prepared.”
There is a constant demand for success at United and despite a healthy lead in the Premier League, Evans – who turned 25 last week – believes his side could be even better placed.
“We’ve been doing well this season although we probably didn’t start the way we would have liked,” said Evans, who has pitched in with four goals already this season.
“But we have confidence in our own ability that we can go anywhere or play any team and win.”
