Dream to see Neymar at Nou Camp: Manchester City target urged to join Barcelona by former president

By Paddy von Behr

Brazilian wonderkid Neymar should snub Manchester City for Barcelona this summer, according to the Catalan giants’ former president Joan Laporta.

The 21-year-old faced England in a friendly at Wembley last week and Laporta dined with him, his father and City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain in London.

But Laporta, who worked with Begiristain at Barcelona, denied claims he was acting as an agent for the Premier League champions.

“My dream is to see Neymar playing for FC Barcelona like Ronaldinho, Romario, Rivaldo and Ronaldo did in the past,” he told Catalunya Radio.

“I was quite shocked to read that people thought I was there as agent for another club. I am not an agent I am a lawyer.

“I earn my wages doing something else, not as an agent and, as I say, it would be great to see Neymar at Barcelona.”

City may be in the hunt for a striker, after offloading the troublesome Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in January.

And Neymar, who has scored 17 times in 28 appearances for Brazil, is one of the most highly sought-after assets in world football.

However, City are one of many clubs chasing the Brazilian’s signature, as the youngster’s father is well aware.

“Neymar’s father is nervous because every big club in Europe want his son and that is stressful,” added Laporta.

“But when I saw him he comes across as a quiet man who is trying to stay calm and do the best for his son.”
