Despite remaining faithful to their Manchester United hero Gary Neville, fans have overruled his Man of the Match vote against Liverpool in favour of goal machine Robin van Persie.
The former Reds rightback, now a pundit and commentator for Sky Sports, gave the nod to England striker Danny Welbeck for his tireless energy during United’s 2-1 triumph over their old foes.
But after notching is tenth goal in as many games, the Flying Dutchman RVP stole fans’ vote with 27% of the vote.
Welbeck, who played a part on both goals, was energetic throughout and consistently pressurised Pepe Reina and Liverpool’s backline, but it was only enough to take fourth place with 16%.
Not that he is bitter about the Premier League’s Player of the Month, Van Persie taking the limelight as he hailed his strike partner’s gift.
“Robin is different class. He produces moments in games that others can’t,” he said. “We’re glad to have him on our side putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Having been forced to settle for two assists rather than one goal and one set up, Patrice Evra (19%) came in a close third behind pass master Michael Carrick (20%) and Tom Cleverley (10%) completed the top five.
