Belle Vue are one step closer to completing their speedway squad for the 2013 Elite League thanks to the acquisition of German rider Kevin Wolbert.
The 23-year-old joins on loan from Premier League Edinburgh and has previously raced for Poole and Birmingham in the Elite League.
Wolbert contacted the Aces to discuss the possibility of riding in Manchester and team manager Jason Attwood said he was more than happy to make the star his sixth acquisition.
“I am very happy to have him on board because one of the options was to bring in another doubling up rider from the Premier League,” said Attwood.
“But we have two in Craig Cook and Kauko Nieminen, and didn’t really want a third.
“I’d like to thank John Campbell, promoter at Kevin’s parent club Edinburgh, for his help in the signing – they were happy to help us do the deal.”
The German rider has a brilliant record at Kirkmanshulme Lane, having picked up 39 points in three visits, and Attwood is aware of the talent that his latest signing possesses.
“Kevin has shown that he is good round Belle Vue,” he said. “I know he can beat opposing reserves but I feel he can do better than that and beat second string riders as well.
“Kevin comes in with a 5.4 average and, like our other signings, he is a rider with the definite potential to increase his average during the season.”
Wolbert won the Individual German Championship title in 2008 and was part of the successful Poole side that completed an Elite League and Knockout Cup double in 2011.
The final place in the Aces line up could be filled by Swede Magnus Zetterstrom, a rider with previous experience at Poole, Peterborough and Somerset.
