Manchester United are on their way to South Africa to begin their pre-season summer tour – and have boldly taken a strong squad.

Rio Ferdinand captains the side and will play alongside first team regulars Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia and Anderson.

There is a surprise inclusion for 22-year-old Bebe who returns from a season-long loan at Turkey side Besiktas.

Notable absentees include Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, who are both injured, but new signings Nick Powell and Shinji Kagawa are included.

United will arrive on South Africa’s east coast to begin their campaign in Durban, before playing their second match in the 2010 World Cup host nation in Capetown.

Squad: Lindegaard, Amos, Johnstone; Ferdinand, Veseli, Vermijl, Wootton, Blackett; Valencia, Anderson, Carrick, Scholes, Powell, Kagawa, Bebe, Tunnicliffe, Lingard, Brady, Petrucci; Berbatov, Hernandez, Macheda.
