Scott Sinclair on cusp of Manchester City transfer as former-Blue Joey Barton hints at Marseille move

Premier League champions Manchester City are on the cusp of making their second signing of the transfer window as Swansea’s Scott Sinclair is closer to sealing a deal.

The 23-year-old winger could follow Joe Allen out of the Liberty Stadium after telling manager Michael Laudrup he would not be signing a new contract.

Roberto Mancini’s side are in hot pursuit of the former Chelsea player, but will face a battle with several other clubs who have also registered their interest.

Laudrup revealed that he and the Welsh club’s chairman attempted to persuade Sinclair not to leave, but after contract talks stalled it seems inevitable that the club will want to sell him rather than see him leave for free next year.

“I have spoken to Scott and he confirmed what he said to the chairman that he won’t sign a new contract,” said Laudrup.

“But he is here now and that’s what important for me.

“You never know what will happen tomorrow or the day after but there is no point arguing about it, we have to get on with it.

“Until August 31 (the end of the transfer window) anything can happen.”

And Manchester City reject Joey Barton may also be on the road again after falling out of favour at QPR following a 12-match ban for violent conduct at his old club on the last day of the season – where he kicked and head-butted three City players.

The 29-year-old spent pre-season with League Two Fleetwood and could not secure a loan move there as the Football League would refuse to register his move while his ban remains.

And Marseille have expressed their interest in the former Rangers captain – the only club thought to have done so – but the Ligue 1 side are yet to put forward an offer.

Before wishing he Twitter followers good night yesterday, Barton said ‘Bonne nuit’ – French for ‘good night’.
