Manchester City starlet Reece Wabara is staying at Oldham Athletic for another month after the Latics agreed an extension to his loan deal.
The defender – who represented England at the under-20 World Cup in the summer – had originally been set to return to City after this Saturday’s visit of Leyton Orient.
But he will now stay at Boundary Park for a further month and Wabara told his Twitter followers he was pleased with the news.
“Glad to be staying at #oafc for a further month,” he wrote.
“The manager and players have been great to me, I feel confident and I’m playing well.
“Hopefully I can continue my form and #oafc can continue rise, we’ve been excellent recently and there’s much more to come.”
Manager Paul Dickov had made no secret of his desire to keep Wabara after the defender’s contribution to Latics’ recent good form.
Speaking at a fans forum event, Dickov told Latics’ supporters he was hopeful, but explained that it was out of their hands.
“People question why we only get them in for a month, that it doesn’t seem very long,” he said.
“But it is the decision of their clubs. They have plans in place and know how they want the players to develop.”
Today’s news will be a boost to the manager as Latics look to continue their recent upturn in form.
Since loaning Wabara in September, Oldham have won two and drawn three of the seven matches he has played.
His defensive contributions have seen them concede just five goals in their last six games and a win on Saturday could lift them into the top half of the League One table.
