Owen Coyle praises Stephen Warnock’s ‘terrific pedigree’, as new-boy ready for debut against Sheffield Wednesday

By Alex Bysouth

Stephen Warnock could make his debut for Bolton Wanderers this Saturday after joining on a three-month loan deal from Premier League club Aston Villa.

Warnock joins Owen Coyle’s outfit after falling out of favour at Villa Park, and the Wanderers’ boss will welcome the experienced defender into his squad.

And after attempting to secure his services before deadline day, the former Burnley manager revealed his joy at finally capturing his man.

“We tried to get him to the club before the summer transfer deadline but it never came to fruition,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m delighted that we have now been able to bring him in.

“He has a terrific pedigree and has moved for large sums of money in his career, so we know his quality.”

Coyle believes the club did well to eventually secure the signing of Warnock as he was attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs.

“I have to say there was a lot of competition for his signature,” he added. “We beat off a host of clubs in the Championship, so we are delighted to get him in.”

The fullback, who travelled to South Africa as part of Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad in 2010, could feature against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend and will be given the number 15 shirt.
