Use QPR to stop form blip: Manchester United’s Anders Lindegaard unimpressed with back-to-back losses

By Dean Wilkins

Two back-to-back defeats without scoring is uncharacteristic for Manchester United and Anders Lindegaard is urging his teammates to put an end to their blip.

The stand-in keeper has replaced No. 1 David de Gea – who is recovering from having his wisdom teeth taken out – but has been on the wrong end of two 1-0 results.

And while struggling to take positives from last night’s dead rubber loss to Galatasaray – a defeat that does not affect their progression into Champions League knockout stages as group winners – Lindegaard is urging United to bounce back against QPR.

“We’ve lost two games in a row,” he told MUTV. “I played two games in a row and we’ve lost two games in a row. It’s very hard to find smiles about anything or a positive side.

“We have an important game on Saturday against QPR and need to get back on track.”

The boisterous atmosphere at Istanbul’s Turk Telekom Arena caused all sorts of communication problems for United’s makeshift back four – as Phil Jones and Michael Carrick found themselves as centrebacks.

But despite the difficulties, Lindegaard admitted he could not help but enjoy playing again.

“It was quite a special atmosphere to play in,” he added. “Very hectic, very noisy and loud. You can’t really communicate on the field by yelling and talking. You need to be more visual.

“At times, obviously it was very difficult for me. It’s a way of keeping me on my toes and keeping myself in the game communicating, even though they can’t hear me! So I was being more visual and showing where I wanted the ball and what kind of pass I was giving – whether they should turn on it or play it back.

“I think Phil [Jones] did well. He showed he’s on the way back and he’s an important player for us. He’s going to be very important in the next couple of months when we have plenty of games coming up.”
