Versatile Phil Jones committed to avenging title heartache and power Manchester United to 20th success

By Alex Bysouth

Manchester United’s Phil Jones is relishing the chance to bring some silverware back to Old Trafford this season.

The former-Blackburn Rovers defender impressed against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday, despite United conceding a last-gasp equaliser.

But 20-year-old Jones believes everyone at the club is focused on gaining that elusive 20th Premier League title come May.

“We all relish the challenge – everyone is very focused and committed and we’re ready for the next game,” he told the club website.

“This period is always tough with a lot of games in a short space of time, but now we’re getting towards the nitty gritty part of the season.

“It’s the time when you need to be fully aware of what you’ve got to do and make sure you do it.”

Jones admitted Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are brimming with confidence and feels there is no chance of his teammates getting complacent during this year’s run-in.

“Confidence is high but we know we still have to produce and do our job every time we step out there,” he explained.

“As long as we’re focused on what we’ve got to do and on our game-plan hopefully we’ll be okay.”

The Red Devils welcome Fulham to Old Trafford this Saturday as they strive for FA Cup glory and Jones is well acquainted with the visitor’s danger man, Dimitar Berbatov.

“It’ll be great to see Berba again – technically he’s a fantastic player,” said Jones. “The FA Cup is a great competition and one we want to win.

“It’s a competition I’ve always admired and we want to go as far as we can, hopefully we can get the result we want and continue to progress in the competition.”
