Sale Sharks’ skipper Dave Seymour wants team to dig deep in‘ ‘vital’ game against London Wasps

By Ed Owen

Sale Sharks flanker Dave Seymour has called for his side to dig deep if they are to find a result against London Wasps today.

After the 62-0 loss against European superstars Toulon, the 28-year-old believes Sale have to take lessons from the result.

High Wycombe-born Seymour called for his team-mates to put on a great effort if they are to pull themselves off the bottom of the table.

“Everyone is trying to find a bit extra – that’s what we have to do,” said the Englishman.

“It’s frustrating really, being in the position we’re in, but we all know the only thing that’s going to get us out of it is hard work.

“These next two or three games are vital, especially the two over the Christmas period –  we’ll take out of the Toulon games what we need to take out of it, and everyone’s eyes are on Sunday now.”

The Sharks travel to Adams Park in search of only their second Aviva Premiership win in eleven games.

However, the former Saracens man thinks this record is not down to a lack of mental strength, but a need to use the ball better.

“Within this team, this building, and within everyone who works for Sale Sharks, there’s no question of motivation, of will or of belief,” he said.

“The most important thing is for us to look at ourselves – It’s all about what we can do with the ball and can we keep hold of it.

“The buzz word can be momentum. It’s amazing how after two or three wins, you can be in completely different place.”

Sale go into Sunday’s game knowing no matter the result they will stay bottom of the table behind eleventh-placed London Irish, who are six points ahead.

Marc Jones makes his first start of the season since injury against Exeter on the opening day, and Nick Macleod returns from injury at fly half.
