Experienced Swede Magnus Zetterstrom has completed Belle Vue’s line-up for the forthcoming 2013 Elite League campaign.
The 41-year-old, nicknamed Zorro, was in talks for most of this year about signing for the Rentruck Aces but logistical issues slowed the move.
He joins on a 6.63 average, making him number two behind Matej Zagar and Aces’ Operations Director Chris Morton is glad the deal is finalised.
“We have been talking for the best part of two months,” said Morton. “We had tied up the deal but it was a matter of sorting out details to make the move work for him.
“He has been keen to get back into British speedway but it has just taken time to work out everything else that goes with coming in from abroad to race.”
Now the problems that plagued his move have been ironed out, Zetterstrom is glad to be back racing in England, five years after his last appearance.
“It has been a few years now since I raced in England but I have always been interested in coming back one day,” he explained.
“I had some good success when I was with Poole and hope I can help Belle Vue to move up the Elite League table after last season.”
The Swede has raced for a whole host of sides in his native country since making his speedway debut in 1989.
He also raced for Poole in five spells, winning the Elite League twice and securing the knockout cup as part of a dramatic double in 2004.
Zetterstrom won the European Championship during his time with Peterborough Panthers and was named Premier League Riders Champion during his time with Somerset.
He brings with him a wealth of experience and completes a cosmopolitan Aces line-up, featuring riders from seven countries.
