Altrincham chairman Grahame Rowley wants to lift spirits by part-funding fans’ away journey to Solihull Motors

By John McDougall

Altrincham chairman Grahame Rowley has offered to part-fund the travelling costs of fans going to the club’s next away game at Solihull Motors.

Robins fans have had to fund away trips for eight of their last ten fixtures, travelling 1,500 miles, and Rowley has decided to thank them for their loyalty.

Altrincham currently sit seventh in the Blue Square North and Rowley is proud to make such a gesture to the fans for this Saturday’s fixture.

Rowley said: “The supporters are always superb at getting behind the team wherever we play around the country but this run of away games has seen them put a lot of time, money and effort into getting behind the lads.

“The board and I wanted to make a gesture to the fans and have agreed to make a contribution to the cost of the coach hire for our next away game at Solihull Moors on Saturday.

“This will allow our fans to travel for half price and we hope will help them out a little with the expense they have gone to in recent weeks.

“Another large support can lift us again as we aim for three points to keep our push for promotion going.”

Rowley has spoken positively of the FA Cup run the Robins have been on this season, as they now face a first round tie away at Burton Albion in early November.

Having got through to this stage of the competition they have already won £12,500 in prize money, and could see this figure grow to £18,000 if they beat the Brewers.

He said: “The management and club are appreciative of the support and it gives the players a real boost.

“As people know, money is always tight at Altrincham but the recent FA cup prize money has come as a welcome boost to the club.”
