We need championship-winning form to stay up now: Kevin Blackwell fires stark warning to Bury side

By Oliver Rhodes

Bury boss Kevin Blackwell is calling for his side to play like championship winners for the remainder of the season.

The Shakers are eight points adrift of safety and travel to the County Ground to tackle managerless Swindon Town tonight.

And Blackwell wants his players to start a winning run in order to beat the League One drop.

“The more games you go, the more games you have to win and then you’ve got to be playing like a championship-winning side,” Blackwell told BBC Radio Manchester.

“For 60 minutes at Notts County we were alright. We’re OK for long spells, and then the ball goes into our box and it invariably ends up in our net. It’s been happening all season.

“There’s only so much you can do with the tools you’ve got available and I’ve got to try and make the best of what I’ve got.”

Bury are sweating on the fitness of Stephane Zubar after the solid centre-back was forced off against Notts County with a knee injury.

The Shakers have not won in their last four league games, while second-placed Swindon are unbeaten in thirteen matches.

The Robins have also beaten Bury in the previous six meetings between the two sides.
