Manchester City are negotiating the free transfer of Roma midfielder David Pizarro, according to the Italian club’s general director Franco Baldini.
The 32-year-old Chile international has been strongly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in a bid to strengthen City’s ‘problems’ in midfield.
Italian reports claim Pizarro will join the Blues on loan until the end of the season.
Speaking to www.asromanews.it, Baldini said: “We are only negotiating with Manchester City for Pizarro.
“We will try to complete the deal before tonight.”
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini coached Pizarro at Inter Milan for three years, before moving onto Roma in 2006.
Pizarro is under contract with Roma until summer 2013, however he has only made seven appearances for the club this season.
