Manchester hosts National Indoor Skydiving competition for the first time

Manchester hosted its first ever National indoor skydiving competition in November.

Skydivers from across the world and the UK were in attendance, taking to the 14ft wind tunnel at Ifly Trafford in team formations and as individuals in freestyle routines.

Indoor Skydiving has become a globally recognised sport. While originally the wind tunnels were designed to train skydivers, mimicking free fall from a plane, many competitors now never choose to skydive.

The youngest competitor was eight-year-old Alexander Traykov, taking his skydiving career to new heights.

Bex Bradley, an indoor skydiving coach said: “It’s a really inclusive environment in the tunnel and there’s pretty much no one that can’t get in the tunnel if they want to.”

Ifly Trafford is one of just four indoor skydiving tunnels in the UK, and it is the only one in the north.
