Queen’s state funeral: what does it mean for travel?

Many transport timetables have been altered in preparation for the Queen’s state funeral on Monday.

Greater Manchester Police report that many transport services will pause at 8pm to observe a minute silence.

Metrolink will be pausing for a further two minute silence at 11:50am on Monday.

Trams will not run through Exchange Square tram stop between 10am and 12.30pm, while the screening of the funeral takes place nearby.

Buses will be running on a Sunday schedule, further information can be found on the Transport for Greater Manchester website

Rail will be operating as normal, although peak restrictions have been lifted and so off-peak tickets will be valid all-day.

Police have warned that rail services to London will be very busy ‘due to the unprecedented number of people likely to be travelling to the capital’ and are strongly encouraged to book tickets ahead of time.
