WATCH: Manchester’s National Cycling Centre hosts induction event for new track racing series Derbywheel

Manchester’s National Cycling Centre will host the start of the revamped Tour of Britain – Women in early June, an elite level road race.

But the famous venue – home of Team GB’s multiple-medal winning squad – recently also hosted another innovative event, the UK induction of the Derbywheel track cycling series.

Created in 2023 with the aim of starting regular racing later this year, Derbywheel is a track cycling circuit involving the keirin, a sprint discipline which originated in and is hugely popular in Japan and Korea.

With inductions having already taken place in Australia and South Korea, Manchester played host to the UK’s induction day. Riders from Team GB hopefuls to veterans of the sport showed up to test their legs and prove their mettle ahead of the official launch of the series, expected later in 2024.
