‘We’ve waited a long time for this’: Stretford residents have their say on town centre rejuvenation masterplan

By Hayley Murray

Stretford residents can finally have their say on dynamic and exciting ideas in the eagerly-awaited ‘Masterplan’ to rejuvenate the town centre and its surrounding area.

Trafford Council will begin consultation on the plans which hope to maximise the potential of the town’s shopping centre and improve interaction with the busy A56 road.

Also included are ideas on what role Stretford’s historic landmark buildings can play and councillor Michael Hyman revealed residents are delighted to see the town finally being re-developed.

“The people of Stretford have waited a long time for the focus to fall on rejuvenating their town centre,” said the executive member for Economic Growth and Prosperity.

“Apart from the shopping on offer, Stretford has some interesting buildings and I hope the plans can take advantage of the canal’s close proximity to provide possible housing and leisure opportunities.

“This Masterplan shows our administration is truly concerned to get Stretford reinvigorated and sends out a very positive message to shops and businesses thinking about coming and investing in the town.”

There will be an informal consultation with the Stretford M32 Group and Stretford Town Centre Partnership before the public consultation begins on July 24.
