UK’s first UBX ‘inclusive’ fitness club launches in MediaCity

An alternative fitness centre hoping to revamp the traditional gym model opened today in MediaCity – the first of its kind in the UK.

UBX (pronounced ‘You Box’), offers a unique approach to health and fitness, delivering a mix of non-contact group boxing and functional strength and circuit training.

The flagship UBX centre is co-owned by local businessmen Ben Waldron and James Worrall, who are also the co-founders and directors of the Manchester based Whitworth Leisure Group.

Waldron said: “MediaCity is an incredibly exciting place, that’s all about creativity and innovation, which is exactly what UBX is about.

“It’s the perfect place to bring real results to people who will be as excited about UBX as we are!”

The training hub differs from typical gyms in that it does not offer regimented class timetables and bookings.

Instead, UBX is designed to fit around an individual’s busy routine; members can arrive at any point during opening times and receive one-on-one coaching.

The concept was founded in Australia by Danny Green, a four-time world champion boxer, alongside Tim West, a fitness and tech entrepreneur.

Green explains: “As you never have to book in for your workout, you’ll no longer be at the mercy of waitlists or late class charges – a barrier many people usually find across traditional gyms.

“The sessions are designed to be convenient, effective and addictive, to be enjoyed by anyone at any level.”

UBX claims its concept will accommodate all fitness levels, offering circuits, bagwork, padwork, cardio, conditioning, and more.

UBX’s expansion to MediaCity is the first of an expected 250 club nationwide rollout within the next six to eight years.

Its UK expansion is expected to create 1,250 jobs nationwide.

UBX Media City is now open and can be found at 7b, The Garage, MediaCity UK, Salford M50 2TG.
