No laughing matter: Armed gang rob Leigh amusement arcade and escape with cash

By Marios Papaloizou

An armed gang of masked men brandishing weapons left staff at a Leigh amusement arcade terrified after threatening them and robbing the establishment.

Fearing for their safety the staff handed over cash to the three offenders who then fled.

The gang struck the Noble Amusement Arcade on Bradshawgate at about 10.40am on Thursday June 27.

They entered the arcade through the rear entrance on Gas Street and two of the men immediately approached the staff and demanded money.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson said: “The staff were understandably extremely afraid to be confronted by a gang of masked men carrying weapons.”

“Thankfully they were not injured but clearly they had no idea what was going to happen and they genuinely feared for their lives.”

After taking money from the staff the gang fled out of the rear entrance.

They entered a small blue car that had been parked at the back and escaped towards Chapel Street.

The offenders were described as wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information to come forward: “We need to trace these dangerous criminals as soon as possible” D.C Watson said.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
