‘All for the sake of a pizza’: Student punched and stamped on by two men outside Fallowfield halls – for takeaway

By Glen Keogh

'Despicable muggers’ brutally attacked a student outside his halls of residence this morning all for a takeaway pizza.

The 26-year-old popped to a takeaway on Wilmslow Road and was battered as he got back to his Owens Park halls in Fallowfield.

As he took out his swipe card to get into the complex he was approached from behind by two men.

One of the men punched him to the floor and the other repeatedly stamped on his head.

They searched him while he lay unconscious on the floor but ran off with just the pizza.

Detective Constable Andy Langlands, based at West Didsbury Police station, said: "This student's memories of his university years will no doubt be scarred by this dreadful, unprovoked attack and the injuries he sustained.

"It is completely unacceptable for these two thugs to prey on a lone man in this way, all for the sake of a pizza.

"I want to reassure him and the wider student population that this kind of attack is very rare and we will do everything in our power to catch these despicable muggers.”

When he regained consciousness he managed to stumble back to his apartment and raise the alarm.

He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with a black eye, a cut to the cheekbone that needed stitches, swelling and bruising to his head.

The attackers were both light skinned, in their late teens to mid-20s and are suspected to be of Eastern European origin with average builds.

One wore a black hat or cap with a khaki jacket while the other wore a black bubble jacket with faded blue jeans.

DC Langlands added: “Did you see these two men in the area at the time or did you see a man with a pizza box being followed? If so, your call could help us put away two nasty criminals."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Didsbury Police on 0161 856 6094 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
