All guns blazing for Manchester City as they look to increase firepower with Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo

Spanish star Alvaro Negredo has drawn the interest of City boss Manuel Pellegrini as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

The Sevilla forward is rated at about £24million and is seen as a replacement for Carlos Tevez who left City for Juventus last week.

Negredo scored 31 goals in 42 appearances for Sevilla last season and is thought to be looking for a move after the club missed out on European football.

Pellegrini believes the possible arrival of Negredo will help Jesus Navas, his former Sevilla and Spain teammate, adapt to life in England as Navas suffers from severe homesickness.

City have also been linked with Benfica’s Oscar Cardozo, Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez of Liverpool as they look to resolve last season’s problems in front of goal.

The blue’s managed only 66 goals during the meek defence of their Premier League title last season compared to 93 in their 2011-12 title winning campaign.

Now manager Pellegrini is facing a striking crisis with only two established forwards at the club, following the departures of Tevez, Ballotelli and Santa Cruz.

Pellegrini will be looking to resolve this problem before the League campaign kicks off on August 17.

There is little doubt that at least one striker will be coming in and, at present, Negredo appears to be top of the list.
