Aguero the hero: MM looks at five-goal Sergio’s greatest Man City moments

Sergio Aguero made history this weekend by becoming only the fifth player to score five goals in a single Premier League game.

The Argentine striker joins Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe on the list of strikers to fall one short of the double hat-trick, but he has put in many historic performances in his four year spell at the club.

In honour of his five goal haul against the Magpies, we take a look at the top five Sergio Aguero individual performances for Manchester City.

October 3 2015 Manchester City 6-1 Newcastle United

Saturday’s incredible performance against Newcastle was Aguero’s fourth hat-trick in the Premier League and the first time in his career Aguero had scored five goals in a single game.

After a shaky start for City, in which they went 1-0 down to the struggling North-East side, Aguero rediscovered his goal-scoring boots in the 42nd minute, and within eight minutes either side of half time Aguero had his hat trick.

By the time Aguero grabbed two more in two minutes around the hour mark, City were rampant.

However Manuel Pellegrini subbed the Argentine off for a standing ovation in the 66th minute, denying him the chance to become the first player to score six times in a Premier League game.

November 25 2014 Manchester City 3-2 Bayern Munich

Aguero showed his world-class talent by putting on one of his best performances when it mattered, grabbing a hat-trick against Bayern Munich to keep City’s Champions League dreams alive.

The Argentine won and converted a penalty to put the Citizens 1-0 up, but two goals from Bayern left City’s progress from the group in doubt.

However Aguero stepped up with two goals in the last five minutes to clinch a dramatic victory for City, which ultimately proved vital in their Champions League progression.

October 18 2014 Manchester City 4-1 Tottenham Hotspur

While Saturday’s game marked Aguero’s first five goal haul, he came incredibly close to this feat last season against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine scored four and had his penalty saved in an incredible individual performance at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero scored two other penalties however, one of which he won himself, after originally opening the scoring with a fierce bended shot low into the corner.

The game was largely a contest between Aguero and Tottenham’s goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but despite the latter’s impressive performance, Aguero completed the scoring by grabbing his fourth, beating the offside trap before angling his finish past the Frenchman.

September 22 2013- Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United

Aguero has an impressive record in the Manchester derby, banging eight goals in eight games against United, but his finest performance came in David Moyes’ first derby.

Aguero opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a stylish volley in a truly dominant performance at the Etihad, and he doubled his tally to take the scoring to 3-0 two minutes after half time by finishing a simple cross from Alvaro Negredo.

April 11 2012 Manchester City 4-0 West Brom

While Aguero’s dramatic late goal to steal the title on the final day against QPR is the 2011/2012 season’s defining memory, Aguero put in some incredible performances in clawing back United’s lead in the title race.

This particular game saw Aguero score two himself, and also provide two assists for Carlos Tevez and David Silva, as City bounced back from a defeat to Arsenal a week before.

Victory saw Roberto Mancini’s side close the gap to five points on United, and set up their incredible late run to win the title with five games remaining.
