Liberal Democrat MP for South Manchester John Leech has today joined Nick Clegg’s Shadow Cabinet as a spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport.
The shake-up has also seen the demotion of Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills since 2010, who won’t be in the party’s lead team of spokesmen ahead of May’s general election.
Home affairs will continue to be covered by Lynne Featherstone, a Home Office minister, while Baroness Kramer will speak on transport and Norman Lamb will be health spokesman.
“I am delighted to be part of the Lib Dem team taking on Labour and the Tories up to the General Election,” Mr Leech said today.
“The party has some distinctive policies for Culture, Media and Sport and I look forward to putting them forward.”
The changes were required to be made by Mr Clegg because the party doesn’t have a minister in each government department.
