Let the good times roll (soon): Ryan Giggs promises Manchester United will rise again after dismal season

Ryan Giggs has promised the Manchester United faithful that the ‘good times will come back’ following last night’s 3-1 win over Hull City.

The reigning champions sealed victory in their final home game of the season thanks to a brilliant performance by 18-year-old debutant James Wilson, who had a game to remember after scoring a brace.

Robin van Persie scored a third to wrap up the win in Nemanja Vidic’s final match at Old Trafford after an illustrious eight-years with the club.

Giggs, who may also have played his last game in front of the Stretford End, addressed the crowd at full-time and promised that the glory days will return after a disappointing 2013-14.

“Sometimes we don’t win, but we give it our all,” he said.

“Keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon.

“We know it has been tough this season and over the years we have been spoiled with the success we have had.

“Your support this year has never changed, you have always supported the team and the staff. I’m sure in the coming years we will bring you more success.”

The 40-year-old veteran also emphasised the ongoing importance of youth development to the club, a comment which took on particular significance considering the performances of Wilson and Adnan Januzaj.

“You have seen a little glimpse of the future, and this is what this club is about,” he said.

“It never stands still, we always give youth a chance and we try and play attractive football.”

While the youngsters stole the limelight on the night, Giggs paid tribute to Vidic, who will leave on a free transfer this summer to Inter Milan after joining the club in 2006 from Spartak Moscow.

During that time the Serbian won five league titles, three league cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup while captaining the side for over three years.

“He has been a brilliant player for us and a brilliant defender,” said Giggs.

“He has shared so much success with the lads in the dressing room, it is a big moment for him.

“He goes with our good wishes and hopefully he does well.”

Last night was United’s ninth straight victory over the Tigers in all competitions, going back to 1974, and the tenth time the Reds have scored three or more goals in a meeting between the two.

Despite taking six points from a possible nine in his time at the Old Trafford helm, Giggs admitted that he is still in the dark over his future at the club.

“I’ve not been told anything,” he said.

“I’ve been left to get on with my job, which I’m quite happy with and I’ll get on with that until Sunday.”
