Longsight drive-by shooting: Police appeal after man shot in leg

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting in Longsight over the weekend.

The 29-year-old was walking along Northmoor Road at around 10.30pm on Saturday March 7 when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and fired a shot.

He went to hospital some hours later and police were called there shortly before 3.30am in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He remains in hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Detective Inspector Adrian Gallagher said: “At this time we understand a car pulled up alongside the man while he was walking along Northmoor Road.

“He heard a bang and the vehicle drove off. He did not go straight to hospital or call police but we were notified by the hospital later.”

Police are working to establish who may be behind the shooting, and urge anyone who saw or heard anything in the area around the area on Saturday night to contact them immediately.

DI Gallagher said:  “We cannot allow individuals or groups to use weapons or intimidate and threaten our communities so would urge anyone with information to speak to us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 4223 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
