Getting better all the time: Manuel Pellegrini expecting more from Manchester City centurions

By Alan Ross

There is more to come from Manchester City according to their manager Manuel Pellegrini as the club look ahead to their Capital One Cup clash against West Ham on Tuesday.

City took their goal tally to 103 in the 4-2 victory over Cardiff City and, in the process, became the fastest side to reach 100 goals in a season.

Despite the superb form they have displayed so far this season Pellegrini declared that his side are only going to go from strength to strength.

“I think we are getting better as the season goes on,” he stated.

“It’s not easy to change so many things, the way we are playing in these matches is better and better and we must continue in this way.

“We are in a good moment – the confidence of the whole squad is high at the moment. In the last month will be under a lot of pressure, and I hope we will continue in this way.”

Edin Dzeko’s strike made history as it pushed City onto 100 goals, eight games faster than Chelsea’s 42 match record set last year.

The Bosnian’s strike had a double significance as it was also the first time goal-line technology has been used in the Premier League.

Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero all added their names to the score sheet getting one each and Pellegrini said he was happy his side had reached the milestone.

“I think it’s very important for the team, it’s not easy to score 100 goals at this stage of the season,” he said.

“It reflects how we think this team must play – we must be confident in what we are doing.

“We have chances every match to score a lot of goals - in the first 45 minutes I thought it was one of the best halves of football we’ve produced this season."
