Local leisure centre supports people with Parkinson’s by offering free memberships

A Wythenshawe leisure centre is offering free memberships to those living with Parkinson’s disease, providing access to gym, swimming, and exercise classes.

Forum Leisure is keen for even more people to sign up today to mark World Parkinson’s Day (April 11), with free career memberships also available on request.

Nearly 50 people have taken up the offer in the two years since the scheme was launched in collaboration with charity Parkinson’s UK.

Physical activity can play an important role in living well with Parkinson’s and can help manage symptoms.

Phil Bowers, contract manager at centre managers Everyone Active, said: “We want to encourage the Parkinson’s community to stay active this World Parkinson’s Day. Exercise is so important for living well with Parkinson’s and can help improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

“Since launching, we’re really proud to see the positive impact our free memberships have had on those who have joined.

“We urge anyone living with Parkinson’s to sign up for the initiative so they can reap the benefits of physical activity in supporting their condition.”
