NHS Greater Manchester launches consultation on IVF

NHS Greater Manchester has launched a six-week public consultation on IVF services in the region.

The consultation is asking for feedback on a proposal to provide a more consistent offering of IVF options across the 10 Greater Manchester Boroughs.

Access to IVF for women aged 39 and under can vary depending on which GP practice they are registered at – meaning women who live just five minutes apart can be offered different numbers of IVF cycles.

Chief Commissioning Officer at NHS Greater Manchester Katherine Sheerin, said: “We know that fertility is a deeply personal and often emotional topic, which is why this consultation is so important.

“We want to ensure that everyone has the chance to contribute to the conversation about how these services are delivered fairly in Greater Manchester.

“Whether you’ve had experience with IVF, are considering fertility treatment, or simply want to share your perspective, please take part and share your views.”

The proposal under consultation seeks to offer women one full IVF cycle, plus an additional one if the first cycle is abandoned.

It will not have any effect on women between the ages of 40-42 seeking IVF treatment.

The consultation is open until July 29 and you can take part and find out more information here.
