Smiths fans celebrate 40 years of ‘The Queen Is Dead’ at Salford Lads Club exhibition

Hundreds of fans of The Smiths converged on Salford Lads Club recently for an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the album ‘The Queen Is Dead’.

The exhibition, called ‘There’s Music And There’s People’, was brough to the club by Bradford-based record dealer Mishmash Records.

Running over two weekends in June, the exhibition brought rare memorabilia, photos, and artwork to the club which featured in a band photograph on the inside sleeve of the 1986 album.

Proceeds from the exhibition have gone towards supporting the work of the club, now known as Salford Lads and Lasses Club, which provides youth work services for young people in the local area.

Salford Lads and Lasses Club volunteer Tony Kinsella said: “These events are important to bring in funds for the club’s work helping local young people pick up skills that will help them get jobs in the future and make an impact in their local community.”
