By Danielle Wainwright

Police in Wigan have made a second arrest in connection with a man who had suffered a serious head injury last month.

Andrew Ainsworth, 45, was taken to the Bolton Royal Infirmary  on March 5 after being found with serious injuries behind the Edge pub and Bella Pizza shop in Castle Street, Tyldesley.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Mr Ainsworth remains in hospital having suffered a cut on his scalp and bleeding on the brain.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: “It has now been a month since Andrew suffered a very serious head injury which, at the time, left him fighting for his life.

“Four weeks on, he is still in hospital receiving treatment.”

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault on April 2 and he has also been bailed pending further inquiries.

DCI Millington said: “Thanks to the response from the public and some excellent work by a team of officers we have made two arrests but our inquiries to establish exactly what happened to Andrew are on-going, so I would continue to appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 7295 or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
