‘Mindless’ thief smashes window and snatches mobile phone in Prestwich ambulance attack

By Eva Michael

Paramedics attending a Prestwich home emergency were dismayed to discover their ambulance windows smashed and a mobile phone stolen in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 2.40am on July 7 they went to an address in Polefield Circle, Prestwich, and while crew members were in the house the ‘opportunist’ incident took place.

Detective Rob Leacy from Bury police station said: “We believe this was an opportunist thief who saw that the ambulance was unattended and thought it would be an easy way to try and steal something.”

“This mindless act had serious implications and forced the ambulance service to take one of their valuable vehicles off the road and unable to respond to further emergency calls.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows who may be responsible to contact us.”

Anyone with any information should phone the police on 0161 856 8031 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
