Sports stars celebrate ‘a new generation of ideas’ at Women in Sport event

An event based in Runcorn brought together companies and people to celebrate the positive impact that women are having in sport while also offering networking opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Boxer Natasha Jonas and Aston Villa footballer Liv McLoughlin were in attendance at the celebration, as the pair looked to inspire those female entrepreneurs looking to make waves in the business world.

Jonas said: “We are on a crest of a wave in women’s sports at the moment, and we are in the public eye; the reception’s good, and we should be celebrated.

“There is a whole movement at the minute with women, with a new generation of ideas.”

Artist Matty Richards and entrepreneur Sue Richards began planning this event last year as they looked to knit all areas of the event together through the artwork.

McLoughlin was in awe of the artwork, and when the opportunity was presented to her to support the event, she was keen to do so.

She said: “It’s important to celebrate women’s sports. Obviously, a male artist doing this for women is a massive thing, which we should appreciate. Also, the artwork is amazing.

“For other people to see that outside sport is massive.”

The event took place over the 23rd and 24th of October, with the Richards looking to build upon their success with further events as they look to inspire youth and entrepreneurs.

Matty Richards said: “The use of artwork to get the message across—this is where it is going, and this is where it should be going.

“It was important to get people involved in sports early, when they are in school, helping decide what career they want.

“Whilst I want the artwork and the women sports stars to be the centre, I also wanted there to be the small and medium business enterprises there because they motivate me.

“It helps their business as well to connect with people at these types of events.

“Hopefully they can get some positive connections from the event.”

Sue Richards added: “I’ve worked alongside Matty to bring the businesses along, with KCC Networking, helping businesses meet and discuss ideas.”

Matty and Sue Richards will be working closely to bring about the next event to celebrate entrepreneurs and notable stars in the future, but KCC Networking will be continuing their sole networking events around the northwest of England with a number of upcoming events.
