Watch: New Tameside calendar exhibition unveiled

A new exhibition has been unveiled in Portland Basin Museum in Ashton-Under-Lyne, displaying the varied beauty of the local area.

Tameside Community Champions opened submissions for their second calendar competition 12 months ago in collaboration with Tameside Council.

The competition gave residents the opportunity to submit their photographs of the local area in the hope of being selected for their 2024 calendar.

Now, the chosen 12 pictures have been put on display and will remain on show in the museum until 29 February.

The winners were presented their own calendar by Tameside’s Civic Mayor, Cllr Tafheen Sharif and had the chance to see their picture on display at the official launch on 30 January.

There were more than 100 applicants for the competition again this year, and the selected photographs display the natural beauty across the Tameside area.

“I think it’s a really positive touch on bringing community spirit to Tameside and it just encourages people to get out into the community and take pictures and just enjoy the nice aspects that they can of life,” Tameside Council Graduate Communications Officer, Ellie Cassidy, said.

“We tried to make sure that it was relevant to each season, picking as much of the borough as we could and just making sure each shot had its own speciality.”

The exhibition will be open to the public to view for free until the end of this month in Portland Basin Museum.
