Watch: Manchester’s musical answer to the generational crisis in England

Five generations gathered together in Manchester to unite through the joy of song – after a report from event organisers revealed the UK is more age segregated than ever before.

Bridgewater Hall hosted hundreds of people of all ages this morning at Access all Ages – an event hosted by Intergenerational Music Making (IMM) and Intergenerational England (IE) – not-for-profit organisations dedicated to encouraging friendship across all age groups.

People of all ages came together to perform and collaborate in an interactive song workshop from parents with babies, to schoolchildren, retirees, care homes, and choirs.

The event follows a report from Intergenerational England –  in which research from Manchester Metropolitan University revealed only 5.5% of children in the UK live near someone aged 65 or older, and less than one in 10 care home residents (7%) report regular interaction with anyone under the age of 30.
