Manchester gamers gear up for all-action weekend as PLAY Expo heads back to city

Gamers rejoice! PLAY Expo will return to Manchester this October 8 and 9, marking the fifth year of the event.

The gaming convention will give keen gamers the chance to go head to head on a variety of popular games such as Hearthstone, League of Legends, and Street Fighter V.

Lucky winners of the tournaments will also be jetted off on an all-expenses paid holiday to Japan.

The Expo, sponsored by Red Bull, will also host numerous other attractions for those more interested in spectating than participating in the competitions.

The largest Tomb Raider panel ever assembled will feature, giving fans of the pistol totting Lara Croft the chance to chat with some of the game’s developers during a Q&A.

Those hooked by Pokemon Go will also find more Virtual Reality gameplay in the form of Battlezone, a state-of-the-art shooter that places the player in the midst of a battlefield.

COMPETITION: Gamers can battle it out in front of live audiences

Manchester gamers will be amongst the first in the world to experience Battlezone’s intense gameplay and will be put through their paces against each other in the game’s VR world.

There will also be appearances from the writer of the Fighting Fantasy series Ian Livingstone CBE as well as experienced developer Mevlut Dinc, famous for his work on games like Enduro Racer and Last Ninja 2.

The event will also boast Europe’s biggest retro gaming area, a Cosplay stage, and the return of the Minecraft zone, PLAY’s biggest to date.

HEROES: The expo will also feature a Cosplay stage where characters from video games will be interacting with visitors
