The Traitors finalist Jaz reveals why he applied to the show and why he so desperately wanted to be a traitor

The Mancunian ‘faithful’ has shared how his father-in-law encouraged him to apply for the BBC show and the reason why he wanted to be a Traitor during an appearance on Loose Women.

Jaz Singh from Manchester became a favourite with fans – who gave him the nickname ‘Jazatha Christie’ on social media for his intuitive detective skills which helped him make it all the way to the final three in the second series of the hit BBC show.

Unfortunately, Jaz fell at the final hurdle and was voted out by Mollie and traitor Harry – who went on to win the show and the £95K prize pot for himself.

The account manager told ITV’s Loose Women that it was his father-in-law who made him watch the show, and although he loved the concept he was reluctant to apply as he didn’t think he would be selected.

He said: “I was working from home one day and I saw an advert come up on my Instagram and it said ‘Traitors series 2 are looking for Mancunians’ and I went, ‘I’m a Mancunian!’”

He immediately did the application, which took him an hour – and to his disbelief he got an email back saying they wanted to speak to him.

During one of the episodes in this year’s series, Jaz opened up about a painful family betrayal when he discovered his dad was leading a double life and had a second family.

He was open about how his mistrust of people had come from his own personal experience and has been honest about the fact that he wanted to be a Traitor.

He said: “I had to be a traitor, that was the whole gameplan.

“I just don’t like getting lied to and as a traitor you are not getting lied to and you’re in control of the game.”

The 30-year-old explained how the story of his father had resonated with people who have had similar experiences.

He said: “The response on Instagram [and] private messages has been unbelievable in the sense that people are also going through this and it’s such an unspoken topic and it’s a taboo topic especially for my community being Sikh it’s just something you wouldn’t talk about.”

Jaz said the key to coping with his personal heartache was surrounding himself with the right people and admitted that the first person he shared his burden with was his fiancée Harneet, who has supported him and helped him grow in confidence.

Applications for The Traitors series 3 close on Sunday 11 February. You can find the full details and apply here.
