In a year that’s saving what look to be its biggest of big-budget Hollywood blockbusters for its dying weeks, just beforehand, audiences will be treated to another poignant entry to a kaiju series from Japan.
Toho’s follow-up to the award-winning, record-breaking Godzilla Minus One will finally stomp onto screens later this year.
Not a lot is known about the film, other than it comes from the same fantastic creative team behind the surprise 2024 hit.
Even so, there’s a lot to get excited about.
Currently with a 3 November Japan release and 6 November US release, here’s what fans of the superb Godzilla Minus One can get excited for when it lands in the UK.
Gearing up for a monstrous opening

It’s tough to overstate the impact of Godzilla Minus One and how much it impressed audiences.
A well-examined, serious story with superb visuals got a very limited release outside of Japan, but as word spread, cinemas clamoured to get it booked in.
This time around, Toho is well-prepared for the hype and the need for screens.
Looking at the UK release, Toho acquired the Glasgow-based Anime Limited, helping to ease the path to a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland.
Getting the film over, translated, and on the cinematic slate requires a lot of work, but having this connection to the market will certainly help.
Only making the release to cinemas even more epic is that Godzilla Minus Zero will release on IMAX screens around the world.
That means that Manchester residents have a few options to experience the kaiju in this ultimate format. Vue Manchester IMAX & The Printworks and ODEON Trafford Centre & IMAX are your top picks.
The studio is yet to release any firm details about the story of Godzilla Minus Zero.
That hasn’t stopped people from grabbing onto any and all claimed leaks.
One that’s gaining traction and that makes the most sense speaks of another kaiju stirring beneath Aokigahara, near Mount Fuji, teeing up two monsters bearing down on Japan.
Who might join Godzilla in Minus Zero?

We all assumed that Godzilla would return, what with this being a sequel to the mega-hit from late 2023.
Throughout the massive reptile’s run on the big screen, it’s always had a few equally massive foes and a few allies to battle in the diminutive human cities.
Easily the most famed of these worldwide is King Kong.
Of course, we’ve seen King Kong become a main character in the American-made Monsterverse films that continue to do well at the box office.
The great ape is famous enough to succeed well beyond the big screen, too. The slots like Kong’s Coin Chaos showcase this.
Featuring a mighty tower in the middle of the jungle, the game is complete with sticky symbols, expanding symbols, and free spins that all emphasise the might of having Kong around.
Given its fame, it’s not a wonder that a game named after Kong can stand alongside eternal online slot hits like the Big Bass series and Buffalo King.
However, given what the leaks are pointing to, as well as a desire to be separated from the Hollywood flicks aesthetically – rather than just on the basis of good writing – the next kaiju is likely one of two.
Aokigahara has featured in a few previous Toho kaiju films. Destroy All Monsters gets put to one side for featuring everyone.
Rebirth of Mothra 3 (1998) and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah (2001), however, both feature, as you’d guess Mothra and King Ghidorah.
Mothra is often a champion of nature and humanity in films.
King Ghidorah, on the other hand, is a legendary foe of Godzilla and was found in a cave under Aokigahara in the 2001 film.
If Godzilla Minus Zero is half as good as its predecessor, it’ll make for another superb cinematic experience that’s well worth the ticket price, regardless of which other kaiju enters the scene.
