The Mancorialist corner: Manchester pays homage to festival fashion pack and celebrates all things gothic

By The Mancorialist

The biggest weekend of heavy metal music has finally landed and wannabe rock stars across the country are donning their eyeliner, studs and biker boots.

And it seems Mancunians are no exception.

Download Festival, which brings together the biggest congregation of alternative music fans in Europe, may be based down south but that hasn’t stopped the Manchester fashion pack from going hell for leather and embracing their inner Ozzy Osbourne.

Black crucifix jewellery, skull-embellished t-shirts and lashings of blood-red makeup feature heavily and it seems, for this weekend at least, black really is the new black.

Even nature seems to be adopting the gothic hue, with the return of moody skies leaving last week’s summer lovin’ all but a distant memory.

So for now Mancunians are swapping their stilettos for studs and can be found asking for directions to the nearest mosh pit.

In homage to rock chicks across the city, this week we’re looking at the punk rockers with Sid Vicious-esque Doc Martins and a healthy interest in all things gothic. Rock on!
